Siri- A Wildflower Life

Posted by on

Siri is a recipe creator, YouTuber and lover of healthy and delicious food from Norway. Siri loves trying out new recipes, experimenting in the kitchen and sharing her creations with others to hopefully inspire them to live healthier.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

My name is Siri and I’m a 26-year- old girl from Norway. I’m obsessed with food and traveling the world, but from day to day I work as a biology and math teacher in grades 11 to 13. I love my job and my students a lot, and I love that it allows me to spend time on my other passions. I’m also getting married this summer, so a lot of time is spent on that as well. My top three dream travel destinations at the moment are Bali, Morocco and Australia, and my favourite food is a really sweet mango or a bowl of oatmeal topped with lots of fruit and berries. I think nature and flowers make everything better, and whenever I have some spare time you’ll probably find me in the kitchen or on my computer researching my next adventure.

When did you start food blogging on Instagram and what inspired you to start?

It has probably been a few years now. I was always into healthy eating, but there were a few different things that made me want to share it with others. One thing was that I moved from Norway to Manchester. I found that a lot of the things I was used to eating weren’t available, but so many other things were! So, it made me experiment more, and I was able to try out so many new items and dishes. I was also really inspired by social media and the new restaurants I went to, and so I became really passionate about both the health aspect, the environmental and the aesthetic aspect of food.

What are the biggest challenges and greatest rewards of being a food/lifestyle blogger?

The biggest challenge is probably time, to be honest. Creating and testing recipes, photographing and filming them, editing etc.. It all adds up. But of course I love it, I wouldn’t do it otherwise! My favourite thing about it is seeing other people creating my recipes and hearing that my pictures/videos have inspired them to live a healthier and happier life. I also really love that I have a platform that allows me to connect with other likeminded people. I have met so many amazing people through social media!

You are such a positive advocate for plant-based living. What led you to this lifestyle choice?

Thank you so much! In relation to what I mentioned earlier, one of the reasons was my move to the UK. Around the same time, Cowspiracy came out. I had always had the idea of going vegetarian or plant- based in the back of my mind, but I never took the plunge. After watching that movie, something clicked, and I knew I had to do something more. I cut out meat right away, and then dairy just a few weeks later and I have not looked back.

Where do you get your recipe inspiration from?

A lot of the time I will get inspiration from finding new ingredients. I love going to new grocery stores and speciality stores and whenever I find something new, I’ll research it and experiment with different dishes. I also get a lot of inspiration from traveling and experiencing different cuisines. I always try to recreate the dishes when I get home, but with my own little twist. And finally, I also get a lot of inspiration from all the amazing people I follow on social media.

What are some things you like to do in your spare time?

Apart from spending time in the kitchen and traveling, I love getting outside. I love the sun so much, so whenever it is out, I probably am too! I love hiking, biking, swimming (when the weather allows it) or just chilling in the sun with a bowl of nice cream!

If you could live off one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This is so difficult! Probably avocado toast… A thick slice of freshly baked sourdough bread with lots of mashed avocado, lime juice, hemp seeds and black pepper. Yum!

You serve up some pretty amazing dishes in our Coconut Bowls! What has been your favourite so far?

Thank you! I serve most of my dishes in coconut bowls these days, but I think my favourite would have to be my breakfast oatmeal bowls! I have one pretty much every single morning, and it’s the perfect start to the day. I top it with banana, tahini, cinnamon, cacao nibs and any berries that I have on hand, and after that I’m pretty much ready for whatever the day decides to throw at me. I also really love my smoothie and nice cream bowls though. And you can’t go wrong with a nourishing Buddha bowl either!

What is your favourite thing about your Coconut Bowls?

Where do I even begin? First of all, I love the fact that they are sustainably made and environmentally friendly! I also really love the look and feel of them. They make me feel like I’m somewhere tropical when eating from them, and in my opinion everything tastes better that way. Your food somehow just feels more special when eaten from a real coconut! And they also look amazing in pictures as well!

We are so excited to have one of your recipes included in our new cookbook ‘Vegan Bowls for Vegan Souls’. Tell us about the recipe you chose and what it means for you to be a part of the book?

I’m so excited too! This has been one of the most exciting parts of my food/social media journey. Seeing my recipe in the book along with people I trust and admire is such a surreal, but wonderful experience. The entire community and everyone that has contributed to this project is truly amazing, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it! My recipe is a summer taco bowl with guacamole and mango salsa. I love it because it is easy, nutritious and so yummy! When I get home in the afternoon I want something quick and simple, but I still want it to be a nourishing and wholesome meal. This bowl is perfect for that. The veggies give it the perfect crunch, while the base of lentils and quinoa gives a great protein boost and is so delicious mixed with the taco spices. The mango salsa is my favourite part! It gives it such a fresh, sweet and summery flavour. And we can’t forget about the guacamole. It wouldn’t be a proper taco bowl without it!

Thanks Siri! Big love from Coconut Bowls x
